The National Transportation Safety Board (N.T.S.B.) has issued a commendation to "Moby Duck"

"The Safety Board is aware both from our on-site visit with you and your previous correspondence that Public Access Tours, Inc. (d.b.a. Moby Duck) has made the safety of its passengers paramount and has taken a number of measures to comply with the intent of the Board's safety recommention. We commend Moby Duck for its efforts."  Marion C. Blakey, Chairman, National Transportation Safety Board, Washington, D.C.

Please rest assured that our "MOBY DUCKs" are NOT the old World War II D.U.K.W.s.

Our "MOBY DUCKs" are the newest, safest, integrally designed U.S.C.G. certified amphibians in the country. Our all-aluminum machines have met and exceeded every U.S.C.G. test and regulation for stability and seaworthiness. Our "MOBY DUCKs" have every safety feature required, not only in our class of boats, but also those found in much larger craft.

During our eight (8) years of operation we have made over 20,000 safe and enjoyable trips. Also during that period we have been successfully inspected more than twenty-five (25) times.

Fully licensed USCG Captains operate our "MOBY DUCKs"! Our captains are hired for safe operation only and not to entertain you. We always provide an extra measure of enjoyment and safety by having a qualified Tour Guide (Mate) onboard.

The biggest difference between the old D.U.K.W.s and our newer "MOBY DUCKs" is their width. We are much wider providing superior stability. There is an easy way for you, as the consumer, to differentiate between the old W.W. II D.U.K.W.s and the modern "MOBY DUCKs" The old D.U.K.W.'s have six (6) wheels and newer state of the art "MOBY DUCKs" have four (4) wheels. The phrase "FOUR YOUR SAFETY" should be your motto.

U.S. Coast Guard statements:

"The owner of local Moby Duck said the boats have made more than 10,000 runs in Salem and Gloucester without an incident."
 - Commander Mark Skordinski, executive officer of the U.S. Coast Guard's marine safety office in Boston.

Moby Duck, the Gloucester-based company operates two Landing Amphibious Rescue Craft (LARC) boats on Salem Harbor. The Vietnam-era boats were built for search-and-rescue missions in the war.

"The LARCs are extremely safe", said Commander Mark Skordinski, executive officer of the U.S. Coast Guard's marine safety office in Boston.

The boats that operate in Salem and Gloucester are newer and better-built than the World War II vintage boat.

"They're much heavier construction," Skordinski said of the LARCs, which are built from thick aluminum. They also have wider hulls and are more stable, he said.
